HUGG aided KB Spennteknikk with the customisation of their design, as well as the documentation of their well-proven bridge bearing for use in the offshore industry, where they were used as bearings for the processing units on FPSOs.
During 2014 and 2015, we modelled and provided fabrication drawings for the different sizes of Spennteknikk’s bearings to be used on the Kaombo field, located 260 km offshore of Luanda in Angola. Deliveries also included FEM analysis to document the strength and durability of the bearings.
During the spring of 2015, a pillar on a bridge on one of Norway’s main motorways was damaged and the road subsequently closed for traffic. In order to avoid traffic congestion during the summer holidays, there was an urgent need for a fast and safe repairs to the bridge bearings located on top of the pillar.
After repairing and reinforcing the pillar, the bearings needed to be replaced. To aid this replacement, Hugg, in close collaboration with the customer, developed a new jacking system to lift the entire bridge. A mere two weeks after the project started, shop drawings had been produced and verified, and fabrication could commence. Both the jack fabrication and the replacement of the bearings were carried out without any problems. The flat jack system is now a permanent part of KB Spennteknikk’s product portfolio.
